Salutations.
My name is Anton and I serve as Floricity's Online Ambassador. It was quite an honor for me to serve this position as I am a man of garden variety magic. I can conjure quills. But enough about me, you've come to find out about our city and no doubt have a naughty glance at the Kindred Registry. Well, I'm sure we can arrange something.
Ahem...sorry, just clearing my throat.
Floricity is located in the center of the Eastern Coast providence. It is the human capital as we are a monarchy, is ruled by reigning monarch: King Zachary Tempest. He's getting on in years (176) and his once Beta level Kindred magic of controlling storms isn't what it used to be...but you didn't hear that from me. The human providence covers about 60% of Florence's island continent and Floricity is the most prosperous of all human cities. Only Hamilton comes close to matching it's beauty.
You don't know about the Kindred? Where exactly are you from anyway?
Well, every human in our world is born with a unique magical ability that is there's and there's alone...much like a fingerprint. We do have overlaps of course such as a person can control water and another can control the water within a lake. It has been known for magic to repeat after the passing of several centuries. If a person's magic is strong enough, they are considered Kindred. Since ruling a nation sometimes requires enforcing edicts, only a Kindred can wear the crown. There are twelve levels a Kindred can ascend, for it is possible for magic to become more powerful with age (or less so as in our good King Tempest). There are Kindred levels 1 through 10 and Beta and Alpha Kindred. So, a level one Kindred (or K1) that can reanimate small animals can with proper training and luck can become an Alpha if they can reanimate an entire army. Naturally the higher the level the more likely a person is to be elected King or Queen. Kindred above level 5 are given honorary royal status and are crowned princes and princesses of the realm.
Did you say you don't have magic? My word! It's a good thing you are not a citizen of Florence.
By royal decree all citizens of Florence are required to have some form of magical ability by midnight of their nineteenth birthday. This was instituted by King Trevia in 1112. It is suspected that his purpose for such a ridiculous law (since an average Florecian lives about 200 years and nineteen is remarkably young) was to eliminate any potential rivals for his son. The penalty for magical impotence is banishment. Not only from Florence, but from existence. Poor magically undeveloped youths are thrown into the vortex, a strange abnormality in space in time fabled to be thousands of years old. Anything passing thorough it's gaseous border never returns. It is a harsh law that I wish can be changed, but no king as done is as of yet.
Fortunately a tradition dates as far back as the law that allows any child the option of taking up a quest or journey before having to register their magic at the Hamilton Kindred Registry office. Parents have no choice but to allow their children to leave home and seek adventure.
Well, thank you for visiting. You have been most patient. If you promise not to tell anyone, I'll unlock the security protocols on Floricity's Network.
